32 GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM kit

This 32 GB kit contains two 16 GB DDR4 ECC unbuffered UDIMMs rated at 3200 MT/s with CL22 latency. It is built for ASRock X570 Taichi motherboards and other platforms that accept 288-pin DDR4 ECC memory. The modules operate at 1.2 V and use major OEM chips from Samsung, Micron or Hynix.

DDR4 3200 CL22 ECC unbuffered limits

The DDR4 3200 standard tops out at this transfer rate and the CL22 timing is the rated latency for these modules. ECC unbuffered UDIMMs add single-bit error correction without the registered buffer found in server RDIMMs, so the memory controller must support unbuffered ECC. The 2Rx8 organisation puts two ranks per module, which some consumer chipsets limit to two ranks per channel.

Upgrading from non-ECC or lower capacity

Replacing a non-ECC kit with this one adds error correction for data integrity in workstations and NAS builds. Moving from a 16 GB or single-rank kit doubles capacity and adds a second rank per channel, which can improve bandwidth on compatible controllers. The jump is worth it when the motherboard explicitly supports unbuffered ECC and the workload benefits from both capacity and error detection.
