What it is

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-20 MK1 is a new 10.1 inch fully rugged detachable laptop that runs Windows 10 Pro. An Intel Core m5-6Y57 vPro processor with 8GB DDR3L memory and a 128GB SSD handles core workloads. The WUXGA 1920 x 1200 multi-touch display supports 10-point capacitive input with gloves or stylus and is sunlight-viewable for outdoor use. Intel HD Graphics 515 drives the integrated screen and external monitors.

How it fits a build

The tablet section provides one USB 3.0 port, MicroSDXC slot, HDMI output, Gigabit Ethernet and a micro-SIM slot for 4G LTE connectivity. Attaching the premium backlit keyboard adds two more USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, an SDXC slot, a second HDMI, VGA, another Gigabit Ethernet port and a serial USB connection. A bridge battery design allows hot-swap battery replacement on this model for continuous operation without shutting down. The integrated 2D barcode laser reader and 8MP rear camera with autofocus support field data capture.

The fanless Core m5-6Y57 architecture runs silently in normal use, eliminating mechanical noise in quiet environments. Base frequency sits at 1.10 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80 GHz, keeping thermal output low during typical office and field tasks. The detachable keyboard separates the main compute module from the typing surface, distributing heat away from the user's hands. Standard lithium-ion cells power both sections and the optional bridge cell extends runtime during swaps.
