Dual-protocol M.2 adapter for USB 3.1 Type-A

The RIITOP M2TABD-BM is a PCB board that lets you connect a single M.2 SSD to a USB 3.1 Type-A port. It accepts both B-Key SATA and M-Key NVMe drives in 42 mm, 60 mm and 80 mm lengths. No external power supply is required. The adapter is aimed at users who want to read or clone M.2 drives on systems without an M.2 slot.

Capacity headroom at 10 Gbps and 5 Gbps

With a USB 3.1 Gen 2 connection the Realtek 9210B chipset delivers up to 10 Gbps transfer rate, while a USB 3.0 link drops to 5 Gbps. The board handles NVMe and SATA protocols equally, so high-performance NVMe drives and mainstream SATA drives both run at the speed the host port allows. It does not support drives longer than 80 mm or drives with keys other than B or M.

Plug-and-play operation with hot-swap support

The package contains only the adapter board itself; no cables, enclosures or software utilities are included. The device works immediately on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10 without driver installation. Hot-swapping lets you swap drives without rebooting, which is useful for data recovery or quick drive imaging tasks.

Questions sur cet article

Will this adapter let me keep using my older SATA-based M.2 drive alongside a newer NVMe stick?

Yes, the board accepts both B+M key SATA and M key NVMe drives in 42, 60 or 80 mm lengths, so you can swap either type into the same USB 3.1 Type A port.

How can I confirm the Realtek 9210B chipset is delivering the 10 Gbps link after I plug it in?

In Device Manager the drive should appear as a USB 3.1 Gen 2 device, and a quick CrystalDiskMark run will show sequential reads approaching the 10 Gbps ceiling when connected to a USB 3.1 Type A port.

Does the package include a screw for the 22 mm wide drives or do I need to source one separately?

The box contains only the 115×25×6 mm PCB adapter itself; mounting screws for 22 mm wide M.2 modules are not supplied and must be obtained separately.
