16 GB DDR4 Load-Reduced ECC module

This 16 GB DDR4 module runs at 2666 MT/s with CL19 latency and 1.20 V operation. It uses a 2Rx8 load-reduced registered design with Chipkill ECC for error correction. The 288-pin DIMM is sold as a single stick from a quad-channel kit. It suits servers that require registered memory with reduced electrical load.

Load-reduced registered DDR4 constraints

Load-reduced DIMMs buffer both address and data lines, lowering the electrical load on the memory controller compared with standard registered modules. The DDR4 2666 interface caps bandwidth at the PC4-21300 rate, so throughput cannot exceed that ceiling. Mixing load-reduced sticks with standard registered or unbuffered DIMMs is not supported by the memory controller. Chipkill ECC corrects multi-bit errors but adds latency versus non-ECC memory.

Single-stick installation notes

Install the 288-pin module into a DDR4 RDIMM/LRDIMM slot aligned with the key notch; the load-reduced design does not change the physical insertion force. Systems must be configured for load-reduced memory in the BIOS or the module will not train at 2666 MT/s. A common issue is populating slots in the wrong order for quad-channel operation, which forces the controller to fall back to single-channel mode. Another issue is leaving ECC scrubbing disabled, so corrected errors are not logged.
