Dual Xeon 22-core 2U server for virtualization

This Supermicro SYS-6028U-TR4T+ packs two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 22 cores, into a 2U rackmount chassis. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC memory and an LSI MegaRAID 9361-8i controller that manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 across twelve hot-swap 3.5-inch SATA/SAS bays. Quad 10GBase-T ports and IPMI 2.0 with KVM-over-LAN complete the feature set.

Suits compute-heavy clusters

The system targets workloads that demand high thread counts and redundant networking, such as database clusters, virtualization hosts or render farms that already use 3.5-inch SATA or SAS media. Buyers who need more than twelve drive bays, more than eight internal RAID ports, or a smaller rack footprint should look at a different platform. The front bezel and rack rails are not included.

Eight-port RAID controller limits internal array

The installed MegaRAID 9361-8i provides eight SAS 12 Gb/s lanes, so a single controller can address only eight drives directly. Expanding to all twelve bays requires an additional HBA or expander, which is not supplied. This port count is the decisive factor when planning storage topology.
