The Synology RS3626xs is a 2U rackmount network-attached storage server built for organisations that need centralised file storage, virtualisation and backup in a single appliance. It ships fully assembled with twelve 24 TB enterprise drives providing 288 TB of raw capacity and 1.6 TB of dedicated cache. A 6-core Intel Xeon D-1726 processor and 16 GB of DDR4 ECC memory drive the platform, while dual redundant power supplies protect uptime against a single supply failure.

Sustained throughput with 10GbE and cache

Under continuous load the system delivers sequential read speeds above 6 300 MB/s and write speeds above 3 700 MB/s as measured by Synology under its test conditions. Two onboard 10GbE RJ-45 ports support Link Aggregation to combine bandwidth, balance traffic and provide failover without an extra card. The 1.6 TB enterprise SSD cache absorbs random I/O bursts so that heavy multi-user workloads keep consistent latency instead of throttling after a short burst.

Expansion constrained by PCIe Gen 4 x8 slots

Growth beyond the twelve internal bays relies on two PCIe Gen 4 x8 slots that accept compatible 10GbE, 25GbE or Fibre Channel adapters and additional SSD caching hardware. Each slot is limited to the x8 electrical interface, so a single x16 card cannot use its full width and dual x16 cards cannot both run at x16. The 10GbE RJ-45 ports are fixed on the motherboard and cannot be upgraded to 25GbE or Fibre Channel without occupying a PCIe slot.
