This OWC kit provides 512GB of DDR4 ECC Load Reduced memory in two 256GB modules. It is built for Dell PowerEdge R840 and R940xa servers and workstations that require registered LRDIMM technology. The kit runs at 2933MHz with a CL21 latency and operates at 1.2V. It is not compatible with standard desktop computers or with unbuffered and registered ECC memory types.

Straightforward module installation

The 288-pin LRDIMMs seat into the server's DIMM slots using standard keyed alignment. Because Load Reduced memory cannot be mixed with unbuffered or registered ECC DIMMs, all existing modules of a different type must be removed first. Populate slots according to the Dell memory population guide for the R840 or R940xa to ensure correct channel interleaving. The kit is backward compatible with 2133MHz, 2400MHz and 2666MHz bus speeds if the platform requires a lower frequency.

Confirm the system is a Dell PowerEdge R840 or R940xa and that the BIOS is updated to a version supporting 256GB LRDIMM density. Check the current memory configuration to ensure no unbuffered or registered ECC modules remain installed.
