The PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for the M1000e or MX chassis. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processors deliver 36 total cores at 2.7 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo, targeting virtualization clusters and high-performance workloads. Buyers who need a tower or rack-mount form factor cannot use this blade.

Controller, networking and remote management

The PERC H330 provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 across two 2.5-inch drive bays. A Broadcom 57810S-K daughter card adds dual-port 10 Gb Ethernet, while iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band control. The system ships without an operating system, front bezel or rails.

Memory ceiling and storage interface limits

Sixteen DDR4 slots support up to 1.5 TB of registered ECC memory at 2666 MHz. The H330 controller does not present NVMe drives to the operating system, so flash acceleration requires a different controller. Maximum processor count is fixed at two sockets.
