Cisco UCS memory upgrade kit

This 128GB kit contains eight 16GB DDR3L 1600 CL11 ECC registered RDIMMs built for Cisco UCS B200 M3, B22 M3, B420 M3, C22 M3 and C220 M3 servers. Each module runs at 1.35V with a 2Rx4 organisation and fits the 240-pin DDR3L slots used by those platforms. The kit replaces Cisco part numbers UCSMR1X162RYA, UCSMR1X162RYARF and UCSMR2X162RYE.

Replaces Cisco factory DIMMs

The modules drop into the same 240-pin sockets as the original Cisco memory and deliver the same DDR3L 1600 speed and CL11 timing. The upgrade is worthwhile when the server needs more capacity for virtualisation or larger datasets and the memory controller supports registered ECC DIMMs. It will not work in standard desktop boards or in systems that require unbuffered or load-reduced memory.

DDR3L platform limits

DDR3L tops out at 1600 MT/s and 1.35V, so bandwidth and density are capped by the memory controller in these Cisco UCS models. Registered ECC adds a clock cycle of buffering, which helps signal integrity at high DIMM counts but prevents mixing with unbuffered or LRDIMM modules. Buyers who need higher speeds, greater densities or newer memory generations must move to a later server platform.
