The AMD Ryzen 5 4500 is a six-core, twelve-thread desktop processor built on a 7 nm process for Socket AM4. It ships with a 65 W thermal design and includes the Wraith Stealth cooler in the box. The chip targets builders who want solid multi-threaded throughput for everyday productivity, streaming and mainstream gaming without moving to a newer platform.
Moving from a four-core AM4 chip or an older socket gives a clear jump to six cores and higher boost clocks while keeping the same motherboard after a BIOS update. The step is worthwhile when workloads regularly saturate four threads, such as light video encoding, compilation or gaming while broadcasting. If the current system already runs a six-core Zen 2 or Zen 3 part, the gain is marginal.
The processor pairs 8 MB of L3 cache with a dual-channel controller rated for DDR4-3200, providing enough bandwidth for typical gaming and office workloads. Memory-heavy tasks such as large dataset analysis or high-resolution texture streaming will hit the cache and memory ceiling sooner than on parts with larger L3 or faster memory support. The 65 W envelope keeps thermal headroom modest for sustained all-core loads.

The processor uses the standard AM4 socket with a 65 W thermal design, so any AM4 board with matching mounting points will accept it.
Apply the pre-applied thermal paste to the CPU, align the cooler's spring screws with the backplate, then tighten them in a diagonal pattern until snug.
Re-paste every two to three years or if temperatures rise above the 95 °C maximum operating limit under load.
