PowerEdge M640 dual Xeon blade

This half-height blade server fits into a PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis and is powered by two Intel Xeon Gold 6230 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 20 cores for a total of 40 cores and 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 slots. The unit ships with a PERC S140 controller and two 960 GB SATA SSDs configured for RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10.

Chassis integration and I/O

The blade occupies one half-height slot and requires a compatible MX or M1000e enclosure for power, cooling and fabric connectivity. A Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb daughter card is installed for high-speed networking. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management without consuming a front-panel port. The PERC S140 handles SATA and SAS drives, freeing a PCIe slot that would otherwise be needed for a separate RAID card.

Memory headroom and storage limits

The 512 GB installed uses all 16 DIMM slots, so any expansion requires replacing modules; the platform supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4. Two 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with the 960 GB SSDs, leaving no free bays for additional internal storage. Workloads needing more capacity or NVMe performance must rely on shared chassis storage or external arrays.
