Purpose-built 2U server

The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server designed for businesses that need dense compute and local storage in a standard cabinet. Dual eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors at 2.4 GHz deliver 32 logical threads for virtualisation, database or line-of-business workloads. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory populate half of the twelve available DIMM slots. Two 300 GB 15 000 rpm SAS drives and the H730 RAID controller provide immediate high-performance storage capacity.

Enterprise chassis and connectivity

A 2U form factor fits typical rack depth while exposing eight hot-plug 3.5-inch bays for SAS or SATA drives. Redundant 750 W power supplies can be swapped without downtime. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps SAS throughput. Networking is handled by a daughter card with four 1 GbE ports, and five PCIe slots (three 3.0, two 2.0) remain open for additional controllers or accelerators. Remote management uses iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller for out-of-band control.

Thermal and power profile

Redundant 750 W supplies share the load, reducing stress on each unit during normal operation. The 2U airflow design directs front-to-rear cooling across both processors, memory and drive bays. Fan speeds adjust automatically through iDRAC8 policies, keeping acoustic output appropriate for a server room rather than an office. Typical power draw scales with CPU utilisation and the number of installed drives, allowing the second supply to take over seamlessly if the first fails.
