Dual Xeon Silver 4114 server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with ten cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. The system includes a PERC H740P storage controller and eight 3.5-inch drive trays for SATA or SAS drives. It is built for virtualization, database hosting, and file or application serving.

Memory and storage capacity

The server holds up to 1 TB of DDR4 memory across sixteen slots, leaving twelve slots open for expansion from the factory 64 GB. Eight hot-swap trays accept 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, and the H740P controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 with its 8 GB cache. No drives are installed, so buyers must supply their own storage media. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies provide headroom for fully populated configurations.

Interface and expansion limits

Network connectivity is limited to two 1 GbE RJ45 ports via an integrated daughter card. The PERC H740P connects through a PCIe slot using a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA interface. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote management over a dedicated connection. The chassis reaches its drive-bay limit at eight 3.5-inch trays and its processor limit at two sockets.
