The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases or high-performance computing workloads. Dual 14-core Intel Xeon E5-2683 v3 processors at 2.0 GHz with 3.0 GHz turbo and 512 GB of DDR4-2133 registered ECC memory across 16 modules provide the compute and memory capacity these workloads demand.

Verify rack depth and power before ordering

Confirm the rack can accommodate a 2U chassis with sliding rails and that the facility supplies redundant power circuits for the two 750 W platinum-efficiency supplies. The system uses LGA 2011-3 sockets and DDR4 registered ECC modules only; standard unbuffered DDR4 will not function. Ten 2.5-inch SAS drive bays are populated with 600 GB 10 K drives, so no additional caddies are required for the factory configuration.

Dual CPUs, 24 DIMM slots and quad-port networking

Two processors are installed and the board supports no more, while 24 DIMM slots allow expansion to 1.5 TB total memory. The PERC H730 1 GB controller manages SAS or SATA drives in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 with battery-backed cache. A quad-port network daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 GbE SFP+ connections, and iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management.
