Capacity and compute

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built around dual Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with eight cores. Thirty-two logical threads handle virtualisation, database and file-serving workloads for small to mid-sized businesses. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across the 24 DIMM slots, reaching the system's listed maximum capacity. No operating system is included, so administrators can deploy their preferred hypervisor or bare-metal OS.

Storage and expansion

Twelve front-accessible 3.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives, allowing up to 52 TB of raw capacity when fully populated. The integrated PERC H330 controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for data protection or performance tuning. Six PCIe 3.0 expansion slots plus a dedicated RAID card slot provide room for additional networking, storage or accelerator cards. A four-port 1 GbE daughter card is fitted, with optional 10 GbE networking modules available for higher throughput.

Power and thermals

Dual 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the server running if one unit fails or needs replacement without downtime. The 2U chassis uses forced-air cooling designed for continuous operation in standard rack environments. A DVD-ROM drive is included for legacy media installation. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller, offering out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and virtual console access from any networked workstation.
