Dual Gold 6126 compute platform

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6126 processors, each with 12 cores at 2.6GHz. It ships with 512GB of DDR4 memory in 16 modules of 32GB PC4-2400. Six 300GB 10K SAS drives are pre-installed behind an H730P RAID controller. The system targets virtualisation clusters and database workloads that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a dense rack form factor.

Redundant 1100W power and iDRAC9 management

Dual 1100W redundant power supplies provide fail-over without shutdown. The iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management module gives full out-of-band control over power, firmware and console access. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X550 NDC delivering two 10Gb RJ45 ports and two 1Gb RJ45 ports. No optical drive is fitted, reducing internal heat sources.

Eight 2.5-inch bays and eight PCIe Gen 3 slots

The chassis holds up to eight 2.5-inch drives, leaving two bays free for expansion beyond the six factory drives. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional network, storage or accelerator cards. Rails, bezel and power cords are included for immediate rack mounting. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays or a different form factor should consider other platforms.
