The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Xeon Gold 5120 processors, each running 14 cores at 2.2 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across 16 DIMM slots and a PERC H330 storage controller. The chassis provides 16 hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays, though only four drive trays are included. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power. This configuration targets virtualization, database hosting, file storage and software-defined storage workloads.

Pre-Install Checks

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 5U form factor and that the LGA 3647 socket matches the installed processors. Confirm the PERC H330 controller supports your intended RAID level for SAS or SATA drives. Ensure the DDR4 ECC registered modules align with the 16 available slots and the 1 TB maximum capacity. Check that iDRAC 9 Express meets your remote management requirements. The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so plan for separate mounting hardware. Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are integrated on the motherboard.

Build Integration

Four 2.5-inch drive trays are supplied, leaving twelve bays free for additional SAS, SATA or SSD storage. The PERC H330 handles 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity for the backplane. Two 750 W hot-plug power supplies occupy the redundant power bays and share the load. PCI Express slots remain available for extra RAID controllers, network adapters, GPUs or other expansion cards. iDRAC 9 Express provides out-of-band management without consuming a PCIe slot. The server supports tower or rack deployment with an optional conversion kit.
