This new 6 TB 3.5 inch SAS hard drive operates at 7200 RPM with a 12 Gbps interface and 512e formatting. It is built for Dell PowerEdge towers and rack servers including the T20, T100, T105, T110 Gen I and II, T300, T310, T320, T330, T410, T420, T430, T440, T605, T610, T620, T630, T640 and T710. The drive supports hot-swap installation in compatible bays.
12 Gbps SAS interface determines controller
The drive connects through a 12 Gbps SAS port and requires a controller or backplane that negotiates at that speed. Older 6 Gbps SAS controllers will limit throughput and some may not recognise the drive at all. Verify the server’s storage controller specification before purchase.
Nearline 7200 RPM design sustains sequential
The 7200 RPM spindle and nearline firmware are tuned for continuous read and write streams rather than burst random I/O. Under sustained load the drive maintains steady transfer rates appropriate for bulk storage, backup targets and archival workloads in the supported PowerEdge platforms.
