250W TFX server power supply

This 250W TFX power supply targets administrators maintaining Dell OptiPlex 220S, 230S and 530S small-form-factor servers. It replaces the original PC6038 or PS-5251-06 unit and delivers 250W across 100-264V input. The non-modular cable set includes a 24-pin ATX connector, a 4-pin ATX connector, a 4-pin Berg floppy connector and three 15-pin SATA power leads.

Sustained load behaviour with passive PFC

Passive power-factor correction means the unit draws higher peak current at low line voltage, so sustained 250W output at 100V requires 8A from the mains. At 200-240V the same load draws 4A, reducing stress on upstream distribution. The supply operates across 50-60Hz without manual switching, maintaining regulation during continuous server duty rather than short bursts.

Connector limits for modern builds

Three 15-pin SATA connectors restrict the number of directly powered drives to three. No 12V graphics-card pins are present, so discrete GPU upgrades are not supported. The single 24-pin and 4-pin ATX pair serves mainstream server boards, but boards requiring an 8-pin EPS12V connector cannot be used.
