The HP ProLiant DL360 G9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor at 3.4 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC memory in a 1U chassis. Eight small-form-factor drive bays hold two 1 TB 7.2K SAS drives on an H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Suits virtualisation hosts

Buyers who want more storage bays than eight 2.5-inch slots, or who require GPU acceleration beyond the integrated Matrox G200, should look at something else. The single-socket configuration limits core count to six physical cores and twelve threads, so heavily threaded render farms or large-scale analytics clusters will need a dual-processor platform.

Memory upgrades must use DDR4 ECC registered modules up to 2400 MT/s; mixing speeds or using unbuffered DIMMs will prevent the system from posting. A second processor kit is required to unlock the remaining twelve DIMM slots and the second CPU socket.
