The board supports two Xeon processors and 24 DIMM slots, 12 per CPU. With one E5-2643 v3 installed you can use the 12 slots wired to that socket; the second socket and its 12 slots remain available for a future processor upgrade.

Will the Smart HBA H240ar controller work with my existing 6 Gbps SATA drives?

Yes. The H240ar handles both 12 Gbps SAS and 6 Gbps SATA, so older SATA drives can be installed in the 3.5-inch bays and used in any supported RAID level.

How can I confirm the H240ar sees both 1 TB SAS drives after installation?

During POST press the key shown for the H240ar configuration utility, or open the iLO interface; both will list the two 1 TB SAS drives and the RAID volume state.
