SATA 6.0 Gb/s interface limits

The drive connects through a SATA 6.0 Gb/s interface, so the practical ceiling is the SATA III bus rather than the mechanical media. Sequential throughput will top out well below the 6.0 Gb/s line because the 5400 RPM platters and 12 ms average seek time set the real pace. Random I/O is constrained by the 5.6 ms average latency and the single actuator design.

1 TB capacity with 500 GB per platter

Two 500 GB platters give the full 1 TB, so the drive handles operating system, applications and a large media library without spanning volumes. The 8 MB cache helps burst reads but cannot compensate for sustained heavy write workloads. Users who need faster access times or higher sustained transfer rates for video editing or database work will find the mechanical limits restrictive.
