It uses conventional magnetic recording and a SATA 6.0 Gb/s interface to deliver consistent throughput in multi-bay systems. The 7200 RPM spindle speed and 256 MB cache support 24 x 7 workloads without the latency penalties of shingled recording. This drive targets home and small-business NAS deployments that need reliable capacity expansion.

Handles multi-bay RAID workloads

AgileArray firmware adds dual-plane balancing and RAID optimisation so the drive remains stable when installed alongside three or more units in the same chassis. Rotational vibration sensors compensate for chassis-induced vibration that would otherwise degrade performance in dense arrays. IronWolf Health Management monitors drive telemetry and can trigger preventive actions before a failure develops. CMR recording and RV sensors decide fit

Conventional magnetic recording ensures every write lands on a fresh track, avoiding the sustained-write slowdowns that affect shingled drives in parity rebuilds or heavy ingest. The on-board rotational vibration sensors are the single specification that determines whether this model will maintain rated throughput in a four-bay or larger enclosure. If the target NAS has only one or two bays and vibration is minimal, a non-RV drive may suffice; for denser racks the sensors are essential.
