2U rackmount chassis for storage servers

The Silverstone RM23-502 is a 2U server chassis designed for ATX motherboards up to 12 by 9.6 inches. It provides dual external 5.25 inch bays and internal space for five 3.5 inch hard drives plus one 2.5 inch SSD. Seven low-profile expansion slots support add-in cards such as RAID controllers or network adapters. Front USB 3.1 Gen1 ports give 5Gbps connectivity for peripherals or maintenance drives.

Thermals noise and power

Cooling is handled by a bracket that accepts up to three 80mm by 38mm fans at the front and a single 60mm rear fan. The chassis supports standard ATX power supplies up to 180mm deep, allowing a wide choice of units. CPU cooler height is limited to 65mm, so low-profile coolers are required. Metal thickness is 1mm, which keeps weight down while maintaining rigidity for rack mounting.

Upgrade path and fit

This chassis replaces older 2U cases that lack front USB 3.1 Gen1 ports or sufficient 3.5 inch drive density. It suits builders moving from tower workstations to rack density without sacrificing ATX motherboard support. The reserved rail holes accept optional sliding rails for easier service access. It is not suited for full-height expansion cards or CPU coolers taller than 65mm.
