It ships fully assembled with 32GB of DDR4 ECC memory, four 24TB enterprise drives for 96TB of raw capacity, and a 1.6TB NVMe cache tier. An Intel Xeon D-1726 six-core processor handles demanding multi-user workloads without requiring a separate server.
Dual 10GbE and PCIe Expandability
Two RJ-45 10GbE ports provide high-throughput network connectivity directly from the chassis, while a dedicated 1GbE management port keeps administration traffic separate. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports allow quick attachment of external drives or peripherals. A PCIe Gen4 x8 slot and dual M.2 NVMe slots remain available for future cache or networking upgrades, and the unit supports expansion to 16 drives with a compatible Synology expansion unit.
DSM Software Defines Practical Limits
Synology DiskStation Manager governs every storage, backup and virtualisation function, so feature depth and performance ceilings are set by the operating system rather than raw hardware alone. Snapshot schedules, replication targets and Active Backup policies must be planned within DSM’s licensing and resource model. The 32GB installed memory can be expanded to 64GB, but total drive count, cache configuration and concurrent service limits remain bound by DSM capabilities on this platform.
