Thunderbolt 2 bandwidth caps external expansion

Four Thunderbolt 2 ports deliver up to 20 Gb/s each, limiting the speed of external RAID arrays, GPU enclosures and high-resolution capture devices compared with later Thunderbolt 3 or 4 hosts. USB 3.0 ports top out at 5 Gb/s, so bulk media offloads are slower than on modern USB 3.1 or 3.2 controllers. Internal storage cannot be upgraded beyond the factory SSD slot, so all capacity growth must travel over these external buses.

128GB boot drive requires external media storage

The 128GB SSD holds the operating system and applications but leaves almost no room for project files, caches or sample libraries. Buyers who need terabytes of local media must budget for Thunderbolt 2 or USB 3.0 drive arrays, adding cost and cable clutter. This constraint makes the system unsuitable for self-contained video finishing or large-sample audio sessions without additional hardware.
