The Apricorn Aegis Padlock ASSD-3PL256-2TBF is a 2.5 inch internal solid-state drive with a 2 TB capacity and a USB 3.1 interface. It uses AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption and FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validation. An onboard keypad handles authentication without sharing security parameters with the host system. The drive requires no software for setup or operation.

Sustained Transfer and Thermal Behaviour

The drive specifies a maximum read transfer rate of 300 MB/s over the USB 3.1 connection. With no DRAM cache and an SLC design, write performance will settle at the native flash speed once any buffer fills. The metal enclosure acts as a passive heatsink, so extended sequential workloads are limited by the thermal mass of the chassis rather than active cooling.
