Server foundation

The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors, each with ten cores running at 2.3 GHz. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and two 300 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drives come installed. It suits organisations that need a dense, dual-socket platform for virtualisation, database or general compute workloads in a standard rack.

Build integration

The chassis provides eight hot-plug 3.5-inch bays accepting SAS or SATA drives and a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Twelve DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to 384 GB using 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB DDR4 modules at up to 2400 MT/s. Five PCIe slots — three at 3.0 and two at 2.0 — accommodate additional network, storage or accelerator cards. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote-management module are fitted as standard.

Sustained operation

Redundant power supplies and hot-plug drive bays let administrators replace failed components without shutting down the system. The H330 controller maintains array integrity during rebuilds, while iDRAC8 provides continuous health monitoring and remote console access. Memory speed scales with the installed processors, so sustained throughput matches the Xeon capabilities rather than bursting beyond them.
