The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade built for virtualisation, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads. It fits into PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis and ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6230 processors, each running 20 cores at 2.1 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. Installed memory totals 128 GB across eight 16 GB DDR4 registered ECC modules, and the system can scale to 1.5 TB when all sixteen slots are populated.

Sustained load behaviour with dual 20-core CPUs

Under continuous demand the dual Xeon Gold 6230 CPUs maintain their 2.1 GHz base clock across all 40 threads, while the integrated Dell PERC S140 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA or NVMe drives installed in the two 2.5-inch caddies. The Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb network daughter card provides consistent throughput for east-west traffic inside the chassis, and iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote monitoring and firmware updates without interrupting running workloads.
