Blade density and dual-socket power

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for dense compute clusters. Two Xeon Platinum 8253 processors run at 2.2 GHz with 16 cores each. 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and dual 4 TB SATA drives ship installed. Integrated 10 GbE networking and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management complete the platform.

Suited for scale-out workloads

Virtualisation hosts, HPC nodes and container platforms that fit a blade chassis will use the dual-socket density and fast networking. Buyers who need more storage bays, GPU acceleration or rack-mount form factor should look elsewhere. Workloads that exceed 1 TB of memory per node also fall outside this blade.

Two CPUs maxed at install

The chassis accepts a maximum of two processors and this unit already has both sockets populated. Any future CPU upgrade requires removing one or both Platinum 8253 chips. Memory can still grow to 1 TB across the remaining DIMM slots.
