Two-socket Xeon Platinum blade server

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server populated with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors. Each CPU delivers 24 cores running at a base frequency of 2.4 GHz with a maximum turbo of 3.9 GHz. The system includes 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 slots and a PERC H330 storage controller. It is built for virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads in dense data-centre environments.

Blade chassis limits and 10 Gb networking

The M640 must be installed inside a compatible PowerEdge MX or M1000e enclosure that supplies power, cooling and fabric interconnects. Internal storage is restricted to two 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives mounted in the supplied caddies. Network connectivity is provided by a Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb blade network daughter card. The platform supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 memory and NVMe drives when fully populated, but maximum CPU core count per server is 56.

Tool-less blade insertion and remote management

The half-height form factor slides into the chassis on rails and locks with a single latch, requiring no cable routing inside the blade itself. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides out-of-band remote console, power control and firmware updates over a dedicated management network. Common installation issues include mismatched chassis firmware revisions, missing drive caddies and incorrect memory population order across the 16 DIMM slots. No operating system is pre-installed.
