Compact 1U dual-socket server

The Dell PowerEdge R430 is a 1U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processors at 1.6 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 memory across twelve DIMM slots. It targets IT teams that need density for virtualisation, light database work or edge workloads in standard racks. The H730 RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Upgrade from single-socket or older 2U units

Moving from a single-socket box or a previous-generation 2U server gains a second CPU and twice the memory channels in half the rack height. The jump is worth it when thread count and memory bandwidth matter more than raw clock speed, and when the 48 GB ceiling meets the working set. The 12 Gbps SAS/SATA backplane also replaces slower 6 Gbps controllers.

Build around eight hot-plug bays

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives with hot-plug trays, fed by a single 550 W redundant power supply. Two PCIe 3.0 slots are available for additional NICs or HBAs. iDRAC8 Express provides out-of-band management, while the Matrox G200 handles basic video. Rails, bezel and trays are not included.
