Purpose-built density

The Dell PowerEdge R630 is a 1U rack server fitted with dual Intel Xeon E5-2637 V3 processors, each running at 3.5GHz with four cores. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots and a Perc H330 12Gbps RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis accommodates up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives and includes redundant 750W power supplies. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.

Sustained compute profile

Two E5-2637 V3 CPUs deliver 16 threads total when hyper-threading is enabled, providing steady multi-threaded throughput for virtualisation hosts, database nodes or render workers. The 24 DIMM slots are fully populated at the 64GB shipped configuration, so memory bandwidth scales with the processor capability up to 2400MT/s. Three PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot allow additional I/O cards without reducing drive-bay count. The 12Gbps controller maintains consistent array performance under continuous write workloads.

Thermal and power envelope

Redundant 750W supplies share load, reducing stress on each unit during normal operation. The 1U form factor uses high-speed fans that ramp with inlet temperature; acoustic output rises under full CPU utilisation but remains within typical data-centre limits. Power draw varies with drive population and add-in cards, while the Matrox G200 graphics subsystem consumes minimal additional power. iDRAC8 provides real-time thermal monitoring and alerting without host OS involvement.
