The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server designed for dense scale-out data centre workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.6 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory are installed across four modules. Eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730P controller with battery-backed cache.

Fit and Limits

This configuration suits organisations that need high core density and fast SAS storage in a single rack unit. The 1U form factor limits internal drive bays to eight 2.5-inch slots and leaves no room for additional PCIe cards.
