1U Rack Server for Dense Compute

The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server built for high-density enterprise workloads. It runs dual Xeon Silver 4316 processors at 2.3GHz with 20 cores each, delivering 40 total cores for virtualization and database tasks. The platform includes 1TB of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC memory across 32 DIMM slots. This system targets data centres needing maximum compute in minimal rack space.

SAS Storage and 1GbE Network Limits

Storage runs through a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8GB NV cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across ten 2.5-inch SAS bays. The 12Gb/s SAS interface caps drive throughput at that link speed. Networking uses a Broadcom 5720 OCP 3.0 quad-port 1GbE adapter, limiting aggregate bandwidth to 4Gb/s. PCIe Gen4 slots are present but the populated OCP card and RAID controller define the active I/O ceiling.

1TB Memory Headroom and 18TB Raw Capacity

The 1TB installed memory fills half the 2TB maximum, leaving 16 open DIMM slots for future expansion. Ten 1.8TB 10K SAS drives provide 18TB raw capacity; usable space depends on the chosen RAID level. Dual 1400W platinum power supplies deliver full redundancy for the configured load. Workloads exceeding 2TB memory, 10GbE networking or NVMe boot drives require a different platform.
