The Dell PowerEdge R650 packs two Xeon Silver 4310 processors and 128GB of DDR4 memory into a single rack unit. It is built for virtualization hosts, database clusters and private-cloud nodes that need high core density in minimal space. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than ten drive bays should look elsewhere.

Ten-bay SATA flash array

Ten 960GB SATA SSDs sit behind a PERC H755 controller with 8GB of NV cache and battery backup. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 so you can tune redundancy versus usable capacity. The backplane is limited to SATA and SAS protocols; NVMe drives are not supported in this configuration.

Slide-in deployment

Ready Rails let the 1U chassis mount in standard four-post racks without tools. Dual 1400W platinum power supplies and hot-swap drive carriers mean failed components can be swapped while the server stays online. The iDRAC9 Enterprise module provides full out-of-band management for remote install and firmware updates.
