Dense 1U compute node

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs packs two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors at 2.3 GHz with 20 cores each into a single rack unit. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across sixteen 32 GB modules. Eight 960 GB SATA SSDs sit behind a PERC H745 controller with 4 GB NV cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. A Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card and iDRAC9 Enterprise complete the baseline.

Verify rack depth and power feeds

Confirm the cabinet can accept a 1U chassis with front 2.5 inch drive bays and rear hot-swap power supplies. Two 1400 watt platinum units require matching PDU outlets and sufficient circuit capacity for redundant operation. The LGA 4189 socket and DDR4 DIMM layout are fixed; future CPU upgrades must stay within the same generation and thermal envelope. Network uplinks use the installed OCP 3.0 module; additional cards need an available riser slot.

Dual 1400 W platinum supplies share load

In normal operation the redundant power supplies split the load, reducing per-unit stress and fan speed. Front-to-rear airflow moves across the processors, memory and drive cage; fan curves respond to inlet temperature and workload intensity. Idle noise stays low in a cooled aisle; sustained compute loads raise airflow and audible output proportionally. Power draw scales with CPU utilisation, memory population and drive activity.
