Dual Xeon 2U server for virtualisation workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around two 10-core Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors at 2.3GHz, delivering 40 threads for multi-threaded applications. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management suit small-to-mid data-centre deployments.

32GB DDR4 with 24 slots and 8 hot-plug bays

Installed memory sits at 32GB while the platform supports up to 1536GB across 24 slots, so headroom is large for memory-bound workloads. Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives and the H330 controller manages arrays up to 64TB raw capacity. No drives or trays are included, so storage must be sourced separately. The single DVD-ROM bay and Matrox G200 graphics cover basic install and console needs.

Redundant power, iDRAC8 and seven PCIe 3.0 slots

Two hot-swap 750W supplies provide N+1 power redundancy for continuous uptime. The iDRAC8 Express module gives out-of-band management with Lifecycle Controller for firmware updates and hardware monitoring. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot allow network or storage expansion cards. A four-port 1GbE daughter card is fitted, with optional 10GbE NDC upgrades available. Rails, bezel and power cable are included.
