The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack-mount system equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processors running at 1.9GHz and 32GB of DDR4 memory. It ships with two 1TB 7.2K RPM 2.5-inch enterprise SATA drives and a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Storage and expansion constrained by 2.5-inch bays

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, limiting raw capacity to 64TB with current drive sizes. The H330 controller operates at 12Gbps but lacks cache, so write performance depends on the mechanical drives installed. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot provide room for additional networking or storage cards, while the integrated daughter card supplies four 1GbE ports with optional 10GbE upgrades.

Dual 750W hot-swap power supplies deliver N+1 redundancy, allowing a failed unit to be replaced without downtime. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller enables out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and remote KVM access from any browser. Tool-less drive carriers and a slide-ready chassis make drive swaps and rack maintenance straightforward, though the 58-pound weight requires two-person handling during initial installation.
