Dual Xeon E5-2630v3 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 delivers dual eight-core Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 processors at 2.4GHz with 16GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. It fits in a 2U rack footprint and includes a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two 1TB 7.2K SATA drives ship installed in the eight-bay hot-plug chassis.

Sustained load on twin eight-core CPUs

Dual 750W redundant power supplies feed both processors and the 24 DIMM slots during continuous workloads. The H730 controller maintains parity calculations across RAID 5, 6, 50 or 60 without a battery-backed cache module listed in the specifications. Four onboard 1GbE ports handle steady network traffic while the DVD-ROM remains available for media-based installs.

Tool-less drive bays and iDRAC8 remote access

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives with included trays, allowing drive swaps without removing the server from the rack. The iDRAC8 Express module provides out-of-band management over a dedicated port, while seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot remain open for expansion cards. Memory population follows a 12-slots-per-processor rule that must be observed during upgrades.
