The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 6 cores each. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots and a PERC H730 storage controller with 1 GB cache. Ten 600 GB 10K SAS drives populate the 2.5-inch bays. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 8 Enterprise remote management are included.

Upgrade from single-socket or lower-capacity systems

This configuration replaces single-processor servers or dual-socket units with fewer cores and less memory when workloads demand more simultaneous threads and larger in-memory datasets. The jump is worth it for virtualisation hosts, database nodes or VDI clusters that exceed the CPU core count or 768 GB ceiling of smaller platforms. The 24 DIMM slots allow expansion to 1.5 TB without changing the chassis.

Capacity runs out when datasets exceed the 6 TB raw array or when memory pressure pushes beyond 1.5 TB.
