The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server designed for environments that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 8GB of DDR4 memory. The platform supports a second processor and up to 24 DIMM slots for large memory configurations.

H730 RAID controller with eight 300GB SAS drives

The integrated Perc H730 controller provides 1GB cache and 12Gbps SAS connectivity, enabling RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight installed 300GB 15K 2.5-inch drives. Hot-plug bays and redundant 750W power supplies allow drive or power-module replacement without downtime. The system includes a DVD-ROM drive and iDRAC8 remote management with Lifecycle Controller.

PCIe 3.0 expansion limited to seven slots

The chassis offers up to seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot, restricting the number of additional network or accelerator cards that can be fitted. Onboard networking is provided by a daughter card with four 1GbE ports; optional 10GbE NDCs are available but consume slot budget. Maximum memory speed of 2400MT/s depends on the installed processor capabilities. Buyers needing more than eight drive bays or greater single-thread performance should consider other platforms.
