Purpose-built rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rackmount server designed for business workloads such as virtualization, databases, file storage, backups and application hosting. A single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3GHz provides 20 virtual threads for multi-threaded tasks. The system ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and supports expansion up to 1536GB across 24 DIMM slots. Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug drive bays accept SAS or SATA media for flexible storage configuration.

Thermals power and noise

Dual redundant 750W hot-swap power supplies deliver continuous operation and simplify maintenance without downtime. The 2U chassis uses managed airflow to cool the processor, memory and storage controller under typical data-centre loads. Acoustic output is tuned for rack environments rather than office desks, so fan noise is noticeable in quiet rooms. Power draw scales with processor utilisation, memory population and the number of installed drives.

Storage controller and management

The integrated PERC H330 12Gbps controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for data protection and performance tuning. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band remote management, firmware updates and hardware monitoring from a web browser. A Matrox G200 graphics chip with 8MB cache handles basic video output for local console access. The package includes a power cable; rails, bezel, keyboard and mouse are not supplied.
