The Dell PowerEdge R730xd fits twelve 3.5-inch drive bays in a 2U rack footprint and ships with dual Xeon E5-2690 v4 processors at 2.6 GHz, each with fourteen cores and 35 MB cache. 384 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is already installed, leaving headroom up to 768 GB. Integrated graphics and iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management come standard, so the server is ready for virtualization clusters, software-defined storage nodes or backup targets that need maximum internal capacity.

PERC H730 controller and 10 GbE networking expand

The bundled PERC H730 SAS controller supports RAID across all twelve bays and handles both SAS and SATA drives, letting you mix high-capacity SATA disks with faster SAS media without extra hardware. Dual 10 GbE ports from the Intel X540 adapter plus two 1 GbE ports from the I350 give enough network throughput for replication, live migration or iSCSI traffic. Redundant 1100 W power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure, and firmware is updated to the latest stable release before shipment.

Verify rack depth, drive selection

The chassis measures 36 inches deep, so confirm your rack or cabinet can accommodate that length with cable management clearance. No drives are included; you must supply 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives that match your capacity and performance targets. Memory currently occupies a portion of the 24 DIMM slots, so plan future upgrades using DDR4 ECC registered modules only. A rail kit is available on request but does not ship by default.
