Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD packs twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack chassis. A single Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz and 96 GB of DDR4 memory handles compute. The H330 RAID controller manages the three installed 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives across RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 or 60. Dual 750 W redundant supplies and iDRAC8 remote management complete the platform.

Upgrade from limited bay count

Teams running out of drive slots in 1U or tower servers gain twelve bays supporting up to 52 TB raw capacity. The jump is worth it when workloads need more spindles than a four- or eight-bay chassis can hold, or when hot-swap serviceability becomes a daily requirement. The single-socket configuration leaves the second CPU socket open for later expansion without a chassis change.

Rack-ready foundation

The 2U form factor fits standard rails and leaves PCIe 3.0 slots free for additional networking or accelerator cards. The H330 controller occupies a dedicated slot so all six general-purpose slots remain available. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle baseline connectivity; optional NDC modules can add 10 GbE later. DDR4 DIMMs populate up to twenty-four slots for future memory growth. No operating system is included.
