Dual-socket 2U server for compute-intensive

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.20 GHz base and 3.7 GHz turbo, each providing eight cores. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight modules and eight 400 GB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC9 Enterprise, and a quad-port network daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections complete the configuration.

Replaces single-socket

Moving from a single-socket server doubles the core count to sixteen and raises the maximum memory ceiling to 3 TB across twenty-four slots. The PERC H730P adds hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through, while the X520/I350 card supplies 10 Gb SFP+ uplinks that a typical 1 GbE-only board cannot.
