The Dell PowerEdge R740 fits a standard 2U rack space and delivers two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each with 20 cores at 2.40 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. With 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across eight 32 GB modules, the system targets virtualisation, database and high-performance computing tasks that demand high core counts and large memory capacity.

SAS/SATA storage controller and networking limits

The integrated PERC H730P controller provides 2 GB cache and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode over a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA interface. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays currently hold two 300 GB 10K SAS drives, leaving six bays open for additional SAS or SATA devices.
