The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Gold 6126 processors, each running at 2.6GHz with 12 cores. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory across 16 modules and eight 960GB SAS SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute-intensive workloads that benefit from high core counts and fast local storage.

Dual 1100W redundant power supplies support continuous operation under full CPU and storage utilisation. The H730P controller maintains consistent throughput for mixed read-write patterns across the eight SAS SSDs during extended production runs. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote monitoring of thermal and power metrics so administrators can respond before throttling occurs.

PCIe Gen 3 and SAS interface limits

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional network or accelerator cards, with total bandwidth constrained by the Gen 3 specification. The SAS interface on the H730P defines the maximum drive throughput, while the Intel X550 NDC delivers two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports for network connectivity. No optical drive bay is present.
