Dense storage chassis

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd chassis holds twelve 3.5-inch drive bays in a 2U rack footprint, giving dense local capacity for archive, backup or software-defined storage workloads. Two Xeon Gold 6126 processors at 2.6 GHz provide 24 cores total for parallel data services. The system ships without drives so you populate only the bays you need. Integrated 10 GbE and iDRAC9 Enterprise simplify remote deployment.

1.5 TB DDR4 headroom

Installed memory reaches 1536 GB across DDR4 ECC registered modules, leaving room to grow to the platform maximum of 3 TB. The PERC H730P controller manages RAID across SATA drives with hardware acceleration for parity workloads. Memory bandwidth scales with both CPUs active, so virtualisation density stays high until the DIMM slots fill. Beyond 3 TB the platform cannot expand further.

Dual Gold 6126 constraint

The server is limited to two sockets, both already occupied by Xeon Gold 6126 CPUs, so no processor upgrade path exists without a new motherboard. Buyers who need higher single-thread frequency or more than 24 cores must choose a different platform. The 1100 W redundant power supplies and fixed 12-bay backplane also set hard limits on GPU density and drive count.
