The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 packs twenty-six 3.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack frame. Dual Xeon Gold 6230 processors deliver forty total cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.9 GHz turbo. Two hundred fifty-six gigabytes of DDR4-2666 ECC memory support data-intensive workloads such as software-defined storage, backup repositories and media archives.

Tool-less rail installation with cabling notes

The chassis uses tool-less sliding rails for quick rack mounting; rails and front bezel are not included. Twenty-six hot-swap drive carriers snap in without tools. The PERC H730P controller requires its battery-backed cache module to be seated before power-on or the array will not initialise. Dual 1100 W hot-swap power supplies connect to separate PDU circuits for redundancy.

Twenty-six bay capacity limit

The defining constraint is the fixed twenty-six 3.5-inch bay count; no additional internal bays exist. Buyers who need more raw drive slots must add external JBOD enclosures. The H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the installed SATA drives. Network expansion uses the OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot occupied by the dual-port 25 GbE card.
